Lake Central Edges Out Munster in Sectional Opener

St. John, IN – The Lake Central Indians (19-9) kicked off their sectional run with a dominant 7-1 victory over their rivals, the Munster Mustangs (16-12), on Thursday night.

The win showcased the Indians’ offensive prowess as they plated seven runs, while their pitching staff stifled the Mustang bats, allowing only a single run.

This victory adds another chapter to the storied rivalry between the two Indiana powerhouses. With momentum on their side, Lake Central will now set their sights on the Merrillville Pirates (5-18) in a the Sectional Semi-Final on Saturday. The Pirates are coming off a close win against Hammond Morton and will be looking to upset the red-hot Indians.

Lake Central Cruises to Sectional Win Over Merrillville

The Lake Central Indians (20-9) baseball team wasted no time in securing their first win of the sectional tournament, shutting out the visiting Merrillville Pirates (5-18) by a score of 10-0 on Saturday.

The Indians’ offense came alive, putting up a commanding 10 runs throughout the game. Their pitching staff was equally impressive, holding the Merrillville batters scoreless. This dominant performance propelled Lake Central forward in the sectional bracket.

Up next, the Indians will face a tough opponent in the Hobart Brickies (16-10) in the Sectional Championship. The Brickies are coming off a convincing 15-3 victory against Hammond Central and will be looking to challenge the red-hot Indians.

Lake Central Baseball Claims Sectional Championship Title!

Lake Central’s Indians secured a dominant victory over Hobart’s Brickies tonight, winning the Sectional Championship by a score of 4-0. The game was a pitcher’s duel between starting pitchers Blake Sivak for the Indians and Andrew Burris for the Brickies.

The scoring started early for Lake Central in the bottom of the 1st inning. Drew Kosteba launched a two-run homer with a runner on, putting the Indians up 2-0. The lead remained unchanged until the bottom of the 6th. With one out, Nick Robinson singled and stole second. He capitalized on a passed ball to score, extending the lead to 3-0. Later in the inning, another single by L. Halfeldt plated a run, making it 4-0.

Sivak was masterful on the mound, pitching a complete-game shutout. He struck out seven batters and scattered just a handful of hits. Defensively, the Indians were solid, highlighted by a key caught stealing to end a Hobart scoring threat in the top of the 1st.

With the win, Lake Central advances to the Regional Championship. Congratulations to the Indians on their Sectional Championship victory!
