Senior Night Sweep
Game #1 – LC (8) vs. Portage (1)
Lake Central can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Portage Indians with a sharp 8-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Lake Central.
Lake Central got a great performance from Blake Sivak as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. Sivak has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn’t given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Robinson, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Drew Kosteba was another key contributor, going 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a double.
On Portage’s side, they saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Williams De Gracia, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
Lake Central has been performing well recently as they’ve won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Portage, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
The teams didn’t have to wait long for a rematch: Lake Central beat Portage by a score of 3-0 later that day.
Game #2 – LC (3) vs. Portage (0)
Lake Central waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with two straight wins… but they left with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Portage Indians a 3-0 shutout. That’s more bragging rights for Lake Central, who also won the pair’s last head-to-head.
Blake Sivak tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn’t given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances.

Lake Central is on a roll lately: they’ve won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Portage, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-11.
Lake Central will be playing at home against Harrison at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Portage, they will head out on the road to square off against Illiana Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Illiana Christian is coming into the game with five straight victories at home, so Portage will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
